The Assignment (2016)

"The Assignment" is a pulpy revenge thriller about a hitman who wakes up after forced gender reassignment surgery. He sets out to hunt down the surgeon responsible. Michelle Rodriguez takes on the dual role with real physical commitment. Sigourney Weaver plays the icy doctor pulling the strings behind the operation. Lucie Laurier rounds out the cast in a supporting turn that adds another layer to the film's twisted setup. The movie leans hard into its exploitation roots. That grit carries over into the two scenes available on site. One finds Rodriguez baring it all in service of the story's body-horror stakes. It's a strange, divisive genre experiment, but one with enough nerve to make it worth a look.
