Woman In The Dunes

"Woman in the Dunes" is a 1964 Japanese drama about a man trapped in a sand pit with a woman who lives there alone, her days spent shoveling sand to survive. Kyoko Kishida plays that woman, and the film built its reputation partly on how openly it shoots her body, with nude scenes that were considered explicit for the era. The archive carries one photo gallery of stills from the film, showing Kishida in the kind of undressed, sand-covered frames that made the movie notorious on release.
