Nobuko Otowa

Nobuko Otowa was a Japanese film actress who worked steadily for more than four decades. She became known through 134 films made between 1950 and 1994. Nobuko Otowa went nude alongside Jitsuko Yoshimura in Onibaba (1964). She was born on October 1, 1925, in Yonago, Tottori Prefecture, Japan. Onibaba stands as her signature film, and it remains a major part of her legacy. She was married to the film director Kaneto Shindō. She was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer while making A Last Note. That role won her best supporting actress at the 19th Japan Academy Prize after her death. Otowa died on December 22, 1994, before that award was given to her.
