Synonyms (2019)

"Synonyms" is the César-winning drama following a young Israeli man in Paris trying to strip away his identity and remake himself as French, told through his wandering search for a new language and new habits. Louise Chevillotte plays a woman drawn into his orbit, and the archive holds 4 scenes of her on screen nude and in sex scenes with the lead. The camera stays close and unglamorous throughout, matching the film's plain, confrontational tone. Chevillotte appears fully naked in more than one of the clips, with the encounters shot in long, unbroken takes rather than quick cuts.
