Spartacus (1960)

Spartacus turns the gladiatorial arenas of ancient Rome into a stage for slavery, rebellion, and vicious political scheming. All of it unfolds inside the House of Batiatus. The series never separated its bloody violence from its sexuality. It filmed the bathhouse and the bedroom with the same unflinching eye it gave the battlefield. Lucy Lawless, as the calculating Lucretia, brings some of the show's boldest nude and sex scenes. She wields her body as leverage in a household built on betrayal.
